The 599 GTB: Ferrari's new masterpiece!
One of the most spectacular attractions of the 2006 Geneva Motor Show will be, without doubt, the replacement of the 575M Maranello, launched in 1996 and selling 5,700 units.
In appearance, the new 599 GTB merely perpetuates the tradition of 2-seater front-engined V12 coupés. But look closely and you'll see that this is indeed a new generation of high-powered cars being inaugurated by Ferrari!
Aesthetically, first of all, the body designed by Pininfarina differs from the Maranello in the aggressive beauty of its lines, whether it be the light units or front bumper. It also brings to mind the 612 Scaglietti and Enzo with its door mouldings and rear shoulders. In fact, the 599 GTB is perhaps the most elegant Ferrari of recent years! Its aerodynamics, body and aluminium chassis are clear indications of the positive influence exercised by Formula 1 technology.
However, it is the engine that is most impressive. The 5,999 cc V12 unit, equipped with a 5 valve per cylinder head, delivers an output of 620 hp. making it the most powerful production car ever made by Ferrari! With its robotised gearbox and controlled weight of barely more than 1,600 kg, the 599 GTB looks set to be hard to beat by its rivals, in particular Aston Martin's Vanquish S coupé whose output is still limited to 528 hp!
