Chevrolet Captiva: a compact diesel SUV for Europe

Derived from the S3X concept successfully presented at the 2004 Paris Motor Show, the Chevrolet Captiva is the American marque's first 4X4 to be equipped with a deisel engine - a must for the European market!

The Chevrolet Captiva is a compact SUV which will be launched in Europe during the summer of 2006, after its presentation at the 76th Geneva Motor Show.

Available in 5- or 7-seater versions, this Chevrolet should satisfy the requirements of the European clientele as regards cabin space, trim levels and versatility. It is the first 4x4 of the American marque to be equipped with a diesel engine, available in two versions based on the same 2-litre 4-valve common rail unit. Buyers will have the choice between a conventional turbo (FGT) delivering 120 hp at 4,000 rpm, which will reach a maximum torque of 280 Nm from 2,000 rpm, and a high-performance version with variable geometry turbo (VGT), offering 150 hp at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 310 Nm from 2,000 rpm. Both units are built in the brand new GM factory at Gunsan in South Korea. The engines are Euro IV emissions compliant and will be equipped with particulate filters as standard.

Customers will also be able to choose between a front-wheel-drive model and an active-on-demand all-wheel drive version.
